Kind of shocking. It's a '12 Ram 3500 Dually with the Cummins and 6-speed auto. Luckily it's under warranty, under 20k miles on the truck. I think it's the AISIN transmission. Anyone else heard of this issue?

2012 would be the 68RE, and 20k is a bit low, but they aren't great transmissions.

It's a Dodge, they break a lot.
The 4x4's use smaller front suspension arms than Ford, so if you are offroading and hit an obstacle too hard, it shoves the front axle back. This shoves the driveshaft back and breaks the transfer case off the transmission.

"Anyone else heard of this issue?"
I think everyone has. "Chrysler product with an automatic." Their automatics, for whatever reason, no matter the model, are just legendarily problem-prone. They should really call their transmissions a "problematic".

Well, his 2000 Ram 1500 has 200k and it's still going strong.
But that is possible. He said it was so fucked, that he couldn't even drift in neutral down a hill. It was sitting on an incline, and would not move. Good thing for warranties though. Transmission was already having issues with the previous owner at under 10k miles.
